How to Remove The Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant Firefox Extension
Quote: "The Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 update, pushed through the Windows Update service to all recent editions of Windows in February 2009, installs the Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant firefox extension without asking your permission.
This update adds to Firefox one of the most dangerous vulnerabilities present in all versions of Internet Explorer: the ability for websites to easily and quietly install software on your PC. Since this design flaw is one of the reasons you may've originally choosen to abandon IE in favor of a safer browser like Firefox, you may wish to remove this extension with all due haste."

Internet Radio
There are some applications that you are so used too that you don't really think about an alternative. Something like Screamer Radio for me, it 'gets the job done'. Until you run into an alternative through one of your favorite software blogs, maybe something like ghacks.net.
You install the alternative and play a little with it and then it hits you, you have been missing the superb search function in your former piece of internet radio streaming thingie. Luckily for you there is also a testing version, so you can apply a non-hideous skin so it kinda looks like a native Windows application. The nice cross fades into the next station, the more than 12000 presets, or the simple equalizer presets are something I won't even mention here.
So now I just type in 'ska' and it comes up with 'BigUpRadio Skankin' Ska'. Search FTW!

Media Player Classic - Home Cinema
I have been switching between Media Player Classic and VLC Media Player for my video viewing needs for over a year now. I always liked MPC a lot of bits better, but VLC had better explorer context options like right clicking on a map with dvd files or an iso and selecting play from there. And since I'm always working from within Windows Explorer this is a big thing for me.
But really, the guys from VLC should find someone who can redesign the preferences settings. If you weren't freaked out by watching the ring or something, you should open the preferences of VLC, be sure to try the advanced settings too.
So then I stumbled upon Media Player Classic - Home Ciname, a fork of the original which has bugs fixed, you know the original MPC is sorta dead, additional video decoders and the thing what I was missing, right clicking in Explorer.

ChatZilla
ChatZilla is an application that is written in the Mozilla XML User Interface Language, in short XUL. It is incorporated in the Mozilla SeaMonkey internet suite and is available as an add-on that you need to run from inside other Mozilla applications like Firebird or Thunderbird.
In short this means that you can't restart your browser without leaving IRC. If you want to run ChatZilla as a stand alone application you must use the program XULRunner. ChatZilla on XULRunner is one way, but if you already have a copy of Firefox 3.0 or higher installed you also have a copy XULRunner. To run your copy of ChatZilla with Firefox do this: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -app "C:\Program Files\ChatZilla\application.ini".

IRC Clients
Sometimes a good freeware alternative is hard to find. Take IRC clients for example, mIRC basically rules on the windows platform. It is a great piece of software so that is justified. The one thing that is not so great about it, it's shareware. Not that I'm not willing to spend some cash on software sometimes, I mean I have an official license for newsleecher (another one of those programs with no good freeware alternative), it's just not in the spirit of my site and what it stands for.
I already found some freeware IRC clients and I will see if there is one of them which can be an alternative to mIRC for me. I will report back anyway whether I like a client or not.

Tray Everything
The name gave it away huh? This program has 5 different options to minimize programs:
1. Select it from the program main window.
2. Add a new button to the title bar of every program.
3. Catch the minimize button, configurable per program.
4. With a hotkey.
5. Through autominimize.
It is also possible to password protect programs when minimized to tray and completely hide the program and tray icon. And one option I thought was very interesting, you can group icons of the same application in one single icon.

Q10 is a simple, full screen text editor targeted towards writers. It is much like Dark Room/WriteRoom but with some extra features like a spell checker, notes list, alarms, auto correction and a customizable info bar. It also makes the sound of an analog typewriter, a very nice touch which you can disable if you like (phew).
It comes in different languages and in an installable and portable version.

Digsby
What is up with this Digsby all of a sudden? I have never heard from it before and suddenly it's all over the place. And why you might ask .. because they are on the edge of releasing a new version that will use about 20MB-50MB, instead of 150MB+ for a fracking multi protocol instant messenger.
FYI, Miranda IM uses 3,3MB (+13MB VMem) for 1 AIM, 2 ICQ, 1 IRC, 1 Jabber, 1 Google Talk, 3 MSN, 1 XFire and 1 Yahoo.
Yes, internal memory is cheap these days, but why waste it with these amounts? It makes no sense.
